Wall confident he can take to the wing in Gray’s absence

Hatters forward Alex Wall believes he has what it takes to play in the role vacated by Andre Gray’s switch to Brentford.

Gray was utilised on the right prong of Town’s attack last season, and revelled in the position, scoring 30 goals.

Wall was given a chance in that berth during both the Hitchin and Barnet pre-season games, bagging a hat-trick against the Canaries.

He said: “I’ve struggled through the centre, my hold up play hasn’t been the best, but on the wing I’m facing where I need to be going.

“I’ve got a good experienced full back behind me, talking me through things which is what I need.

“I strive off confidence and it seems to be working for me.

“I think I have showed I can play in that role.”

Match fitness has been a major problem for Wall during his time at Town, as he missed large chunks of the title-winning campaign through injury.

He proved his undoubted talent during a loan spell at Dartford towards the end of the campaign though, and feels his body is now better equipped for the rigours of professional football.
