Winning was always Town priority

LUTON Town manager Richard Money believes his team selection was justified by the 4-0 FA Trophy victory over Uxbridge at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Money made 10 changes to his side as only goalkeeper Mark Tyler retained his place, with debuts awarded to youngsters Christian Tavernier and Alasan Ann, while Newman Carney, Cauley Woodrow, JJ O’Donnell and Alex Lacey all featured.

He said: “We didn’t pick that team to lose. If we didn’t think that team would win, we wouldn’t have selected them.

“The next round comes on the weekend of Barrow at home, which will now be called off.”

With just five Conference teams left in the competition in Gateshead, Cambridge United, Darlington, Mansfield Town and Eastbourne Borough, Money didn’t rule out another youth side taking the field in the third round.

He added: “I think it depends on who we draw. If you draw one of the big teams then the tendency is we need to play more of our senior players which puts them under a little bit more pressure.

“But if we get another tie like we had in this round then it would be another break for the senior players, we just have to see.”
