Marsh’s late winner sends Blues through

Dunstable Town moved into the Red Insure Cup third round as a late goal from Chris Marsh saw them defeat Marlow 4-3 at Creasey Park on Tuesday night.

Both teams fielded changed sides from their most recent league matches, with Dunstable introducing Ishmael Thomas and rested some key players after their bruising encounter with Aylesbury United on Saturday.

The Blues took the lead on 15 minutes when Lee Roache’s measured pass to the unmarked Leon Cashman saw the latter finish well.

But a spirited Marlow response saw them fight back and deservedly regain parity when Carl Davies netted after 22 minutes.

Marsh nearly restored the lead only to be denied by keeper Jordan Eggleton and Marc Leach was close with a header from a corner.

The visitors impressed as Davies put them ahead nine minutes before the break, only for Roache to make it 2-2 with a goal of classic simplicity, following a long clearance forward.

In the second period, Marsh fired over the bar, but the outstanding Romeo Devontae was beginning to inspire Marlow and made it 3-2 on 58 minutes.

Dunstable finally drew level when Marsh blasted home a penalty after 77 minutes and he then struck again to score the winner six minutes from time.
