Rea and Sheehan in contention for Stevenage trip

Sheehan has been missing since a calf injury suffered before the kick off at Plymouth Argyle on opening day, while Rea was absent from Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Newport County.

With Johnny Mullins suspended after his red card in midweek, on the chances of them playing, Luton boss Nathan Jones said: “Sheehan’s a lot closer than he was, so he’s one thing we could have.

“Mullins would have got a rest anyway because he’s played a lot of games and we have a strong squad here.

“We’ve mentioned the relentlessness of the fixture list anyway, so it would have been him or (Scott) Cuthbert who got a rest and one of them gets that now anyway.

“Glen felt unwell, so we didn’t risk him. We could have played him if it had been last game of the season and we didn’t have any replacements, then we would have wheeled him out there.

“But we didn’t have to, so we rested him and he’ll be fresh for the weekend, which means the squad’s going to be fresh.”

Olly Lee was back in for his first league start of the campaign during Tuesday night’s clash, as Jones continued: “When Olly plays, we play well generally, he’s a good passer of the ball.

“He needs to improve certain elements of his game which we work on daily, but it was a good performance.”

Jones has also been impressed with the way that summer signing Isaac Vassell is progressing during his late cameos, as the boss said: “He’s getting better, showing a little bit more character now, he’s fitted in a bit more.

“He has real attributes that if we can improve the rough edges, then we could have a diamond.”

Meanwhile, Jones also admitted that both Josh McQuoid and Jonathan Smith have been left frustrated by their lack of action so far this term, but that the pair remain in his thoughts, adding: “They’ll play, I spoke to Josh this morning, I’ve spoken to Smudge, they’re important members of our squad.

“We’ve got no passengers now, so they’ll all play, its just when to bring them in.

“Our front two have been in real good form and are looking dangerous, but they’ll have a dip in form or Josh will have a spurt and then he’ll have his chance.

“I know they’re chomping at the bit, at times they’ll get frustrated, but they’ll play enough.”
