Rea confident he is suited to new Town role

New Town signing Glen Rea is more than happy to take up a new position as a defensive midfielder for the club this term.

The 21-year-old, who turned his loan move at Kenilworth Road into a permanent one recently, had begun his time with Luton in a midfield role when originally joining until injury to skipper Scott Cuthbert.

That saw him drop back into central defence but on penning a two year deal, Luton boss Nathan Jones confirmed he would be looking to reinstate his new addition slightly further forward.

Rea believes he can flourish there too, saying: “Any position for me is good, all I want to do is play.

“Central midfield, I played there couple of games last season and it’s a position I know well.

“I like defending in midfield, so I think it will suit me quite well playing in there, I like to get about there too.”

On what he expects from Rea this term, Jones said: “He covers a number of positions as well, because he played centre-half for us last year after Scott Cuthbert got injured, but he’s a defensive midfield player who will excel and get better.

“He’s the type in his athleticism and his reading of the game, and how he breaks up play, that Luton fans will see not a different player - because he still has the same attributes - but we will be looking to use him in a different role from what we did last year.

“He covers a number of positions as well, which is vital when we are working with a tight, elite squad that we have.”
