Barton Rovers were well beaten 3-0 by Southern League Division One Central leaders Chalfont St Peter at the weekend.

On a good surface but in blustery conditions both sides failed to adapt early on with Rovers guilty of wasting any chance to get the ball down and instead played over-hit wind assisted long balls that failed to find their target.

Claudio Dias had a great chance for Barton after 10 minutes but his shot was parried by home keeper Michael Power-Simpson.

However, a defensive error after a quarter of an hour saw Chalfont take the lead when Kyle Forster made three excellent stops, but Alex Paine slotted the loose ball home.

Chalfont doubled their lead five minutes later after Rovers were dispossessed in midfield and Kofi Lockhart-Adams made no mistake firing the ball past the stranded Forster.

A cheeky back heal by Jason Blackett in the box should have brought Rovers a goal but last ditch defending saw the ball cleared off the line.

James Bishop had the ball in the Chalfont net just before the break but it was chalked off as the assistant raised his flag as Rovers trailed 2-0 at the break.

Any hope of a Rovers fight back were extinguished straight from the kick off as an under-hit back pass saw keeper Forster dispossessed for an easy finish for Tony Mendy.

Ashton Grant and Tom Peverall both had good efforts for Rovers late but the result was never in doubt.

Barton were at home to Bedford Town in the Beds Senior Cup last night and then host Fleet Town in the league on Saturday.
