BARTON Rovers made an instant return to winning ways by beating high-flying Bedworth United on Tuesday evening.

Manager Dan Kennoy made four changes to the starting line-up who had lost 1-0 at Fleet Town on Saturday and the move paid off as Dave Parkinson had two early efforts well saved.

The opening goal arrived shortly afterwards when on 10 minutes a great ball from Luke Knight was headed home by Russell Bull.

Parkinson then drew a further fine save from the keeper, while Bull had another effort turned behind before the break.

The second half saw Bedworth change their formation and throw everything at Rovers, but their best effort was a close-range shot that was cleared off the line by Niran Vaughan.

Barton stay 11th in the table, while the man-of-the-match award went to Tommy Hull.

Boss Kennoy said: “The result went some way to making up for Saturday’s defeat.

“We made some tough decisions in terms of a starting 11 and it surprised a lot of people.

“But the changes had to happen, we could not accept the poor performance from Saturday and the manner of the defeat.

“Our work-rate and commitment to get something from the game was first class.

“Bedworth are a very good side and warrant their place in the top four but our determination to show a reaction from Saturday is what drove us on.

“That was typified in the last 10 minutes when we just couldn’t get out of our own half but we were so determined to hold on to the 1-0 lead.

“I’d like to see that more often from our players.

“There is a good team spirit and will to win in this group of players we have which every team needs but it sometimes can go over the top.

“We’ve reached the 40 point mark now which is a bit of a milestone but we still have 39 points up for grabs and we’ll continue to try and claim as many of those points as possible.”

Rovers entertain Chalfont St Peter this weekend.
