Rovers were pipped for the final play-off spot by just three points as Whiley said: “Its been a great season across the board.

“A sixth place finish at step four is the highest the club has been in its 116 year history.

“Couple that with a runner up spot in the Suburban league for our reserves, County Cup wins for both our elite EJA youth sides at U18 and U16, along with league winners and runners up respectively.

“The foundations are now in place to have another crack at the Southern League title next season.

“Two broken legs in a week in early April tarnished things, but I’m happy to say both lads are recovering well.

“For a small village club we have shown a few teams above us that we can compete with them at this and higher levels.”

Rovers face Ampthill Town in the North Beds Charity Cup final at Stotfold FC tonight.
