Rovers edge Ampthill as they reach last four

Barton Rovers 4 Ampthill Town 3

Barton Rovers reached the semi-finals of the North Beds Charity Cup after a seven-goal thriller against Ampthill Town at Sharpenhoe Road on Tuesday night.

The hosts were 1-0 down after only six minutes when some slick work by the Ampthill midfield found an unmarked Tyrone Taylor and he finished past Kyle Forster.

Rovers levelled on 16 minutes through Bobby Dance’s fierce drive, before four goals followed in just four minutes.

An own goal by Alex Stoyles had Barton in front, before James Bent extended their lead.

Ampthill pulled one back as Robbie Goodman slotted home from close range, before man of the match Dance got his second with a bullet header, all before the half hour mark.

After the break, Town made it 4-3 with Taylor’s second of the night, and as the rain fell, the rest of the match turned into a cagey affair, with Rovers holding on.

Barton host Ashford Town in the league on Saturday while the reserves are away to Elstow Abbey in the County Cup.
