Smith still has England Schoolboys chance
Former Stopsley High School pupil Kane Smith, 17, has narrowly missed out on the chance to represent England Schoolboys in the prestigious U18 Centenary Shield.
Smith, who is currently with the Luton Town development squad, earned his place in the top 32 players in the country after progressing through the preliminary, regional and play-off trials.
Despite carrying an injury he scored two goals in the match against Keele University, but this was still not enough to make it into the final squad of 18 in the final trial at Lilleshall.
However, there is still a chance that he may get called into action during the competition and receive a coveted England Schoolboys cap.
England Schoolboys U18 manager Andy Buckingham admitted Smith is first reserve if anyone pulls out of the squad.
