Sports honour their top stars

Co-Op Sports FC held their presentation evening at the Co-Op Sports and Social club in Stockingstone Road.

The Saturday team, who played in Bedfordshire County League Division Three, had a fine season winning the Watson Shield and earning promotion to Division Two. Andrew Ayres, pictured above top, was awarded Player Of The Year, while Gareth Fear, pictured above, scooped Players’ Player Of The Year and Ashley Jordan was crowned top goalscorer with 19 goals.

Co-Op’s Sunday first team was promoted to North Home Counties Sunday League Division One, with Peter Gray awarded Player Of The Year, while Alex Thorrington collected Players’ Player Of The Year, with Andrew Randell top goalscorer.

The Sunday Reserves winners were Kieran Riordan (Player Of The Year), Gary Dove (Players Player Of The Year), while the Steve Smith award went to Mark Horgan.

Co-op Sports will have four teams competing next season in Beds County League Division Two, Luton District and South Beds League Division One, while the Sunday teams will be playing in the North Home Counties Sunday League’s Division One and Division Five.

Co-Op Sports pre-season training is held at Barnfield College, New Bedford Road, on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm and Saturday at noon. New players wishing to join should contact Richard Smith at [email protected].
