Crawley’s best chance fell to Matt Baldry after 20 minutes, but he shot over after being set up by Adam Reid and Peter O’Donnell.

The hosts should have taken the lead after half an hour, but Ashley Lewis ballooned over the bar after latching on to a long ball forward.

With the Watford side in charge, Craig Savage did well to block Tompkins’ shot, Ashley Lewis headed Colin Wilson’s corner over and Craig Lynsky shot just wide.

Postals continued to press as Lewis broke free, but shot straight at Dean Bull, before his header was again saved by the keeper.

The hosts started the second half well and unsurprisingly took the lead four minutes in when Savage’s sliced clearance fell to Jon Davis and his cross was headed home by Tompkins.

The Maroons rallied and fought their way back into the game. Ashley Dennis had a cross-shot cleared and Jamie Warne fired a free-kick over the bar, while Bull tipped Lynsky’s effort over the bar.

Crawley’s Henry Mungwira then has a shot saved by Ross Hampton and despite forcing three corners late on, Postal’s defence stood firm.

This Wednesday Crawley host Welwyn Garden City, on Saturday go to Risborough Rangers and the following Tuesday again head to Risborough Rangers in the second round of the Division One Cup.
