Tayali strikes to earn Barton a point

Southern League Division One Central: Bedworth United 1 Barton Rovers 1.

It was honours even as Barton Rovers travelled to Bedworth United’s gleaming new 3G pitch for Saturday’s Southern League game.

The hosts could have gone ahead in only the second minute when Denham Hinds hit a long clearance which Danny Dubidat headed into Alex Naughton’s path but he pulled his shot well wide from 20 yards.

Barton keeper Kyle Forster then pushed a Dubidat cross into Daniel Creaney’s path but his shot was blocked.

Appeals for a Bedworth penalty were turned down when Alex Naughton appeared to be brought down as he burst into the box.

Kev Kilroy then had a chance for the visitors, lobbing the ball goalwards after Hinds had raced out to head clear, but his effort just cleared the bar. Bedworth almost took the lead on 17 minutes in bizarre circumstances when Bilal Hassan cleared the ball against Dubidat and it looped over Forster and onto the top of the bar.

The opening goal, which had been coming, arrived after 19 minutes when Naughton lifted a ball into the six-yard-box where Kyle Cartwright steered a header into the far corner past Forster’s dive.

After the break the game was smattered with infringements but Rovers were now well into their stride and having the majority of play.

Barton duly levelled in the 70th minute when Ben Sawyer tricked his way into the box but was denied by Hinds.

The ball was only half cleared and Hoenes floated a cross in for Tayali to headhome to level thing up.

Barton should have had a penalty in the 80th minute but the appeals were waved away.

Roveres’ home clash with St Ives was postponed last night, while they visit Beaconsfield SYCOB this weekend.
