Town's cutting edge pleases boss Jones

The Luton chief has seen Town score five times in their last two matches, with three against York and two at home to Hartlepool, the same tally they had managed in his first six games in charge.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s League Two clash against Morecambe, Jones said: “You need a cutting edge to win games, we’ve worked on that and try to demand that from them, but a lot of that is down to individual quality, down to decisions on the day.

“We’ve scored five in the last two games, so that’s decent, that’s fitting to win football games, if you score five in two games.

“I hope we’re a club that wins game, hope we don’t concede two and threes as well, so it wasn’t a rounded performance (against York) because of how we defended at times.

“But going forward, especially second half, we had a few other chances as well if I’m honest.

“There were lots of positive as we did have a cutting edge and we could have scored more.”

Jones admitted he would prefer Hatters to seal victory slightly earlier than they did at Bootham Crescent on Saturday though, Olly Lee’s stoppage time winner securing the win.

He added: “I would have liked not to have to rely on the last minute goal to win 3-2, but if we have to do that and we do that for 46 games a season you’ll be kind of happy.

“But I want us to build a reputation that we know what we’re going to get.

“We’re looking for a complete 90 minute performance, not in patches or for halves to be excellent, then brilliant in parts and mediocre in others.

“I want to be professional and clinical, I know that we will have to strive for that, but it’s what we need.”
