Walton ready to maintain his high standards

The on-loan Brighton stopper has started all four of Town’s games so far, and bar an error for Newport’s equaliser on Tuesday night, has made a real impression with his command of the area, plus some exemplary handling.

When asked about his start, Walton said: “I’ve felt really good, everyone at the club has been really welcoming, the lads have been great with me, and we had a good pre-season too.

“I’ve had a good start but I need to maintain that now, the last games have gone, it’s on to the next one and just try my best for the team.”

“The games are coming thick and fast, so I couldn’t ask for any more.

“I just loving playing football, and that buzz you get every match day, I love it, so I can’t wait for all these games.”

Walton’s early performances have certainly impressed his team-mates, 
as defender Stephen O’Donnell said: “He’s a good goalkeeper, the gaffer’s brought in quality this season and he’s shown his attributes.

“He’s a big boy, bails out the defence a lot when he comes out and catches them, and eases the pressure. He has a bright future ahead of him.”

Since Walton has taken the gloves, he is yet to taste defeat and is hoping that stays the same when Hatters head to Stevenage on Saturday.

He added: “We want to stay unbeaten for as long as possible and I think we will do that with the defence we’ve got here at the club and then Glen Rea and Olly Lee who sit in front of the back four have been magnificent in the first few games.

“I don’t think we’ve got any problems at the back, we’re pretty solid and that will give us the base to push on through the team and go and get the win.

“It’s going to be a really tough task this year, we just need to stay in that top six for as long as we can, that’s going to be our aim now.

“It’s good to know that we are at the top of the table still, but we can’t look back on the last three games, need to keep focusing on the next fixture.”
