Youth Football round-up: Barton stun Barnet in FA Youth Cup

Barton Rovers U18s stunned Barnet Academy as they triumphed 3-0 at the Hive in the second qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night.

In front of 350-plus, Rovers looked to hit the full-time scholars on the break.

Barnet created chances from the wings, but Barton keeper Aaron Fulton saved well at Moses Duckerells’ feet and tipped another effort over the bar. Hard-working Barton’s best first half effort came when Mahmut Caglar fed Solomon Dawodu who beat his man in the box only to shoot into the side netting.

Barton were on the back foot for much of the second half, but skipper Rob Norman superbly marshalled their defence.

The opening goal came on 58 minutes when Dawodu was bundled over and Brad Johnson’s penalty found the net via the keeper’s fingertips and the post.

Barnet’s play became increasingly ragged as Rovers enjoyed more possession.

And they doubled their lead on 82 minute when Johnson’s weaving run and cross was expertly finished by Dawudo.

Desperate Barnet attacked en masse, but Barton secured victory two minutes from time when a Barnet player headed into his own net as the visitors celebrated wildly at the final whistle.

Rovers now host Harefield United in the third qualifying round on Friday.

A very good team performance saw Barton Rovers Youth triumph 5-0 at Shillington in the Bedford & District League U21 Division One with goals from Tom Ayres, Tyler Prince, Jack Jennings, Jamie Casley and an own goal.

Toddington trounced Barton Rovers 8-1 in U17 Division One of the Chiltern Youth League, while in U15 Division One Barton Rovers won 6-1 at Crawley Green.

AFC Luton came from two down to draw 2-2 with Caddington in Division Three.

AFC’s defensive partnership of Tahiem Randall and Matt Oliver contributed to an uneventful first half, but Caddington started the second half brighter and scored two goals thanks to some nice passing football. AFC keeper Luke Gladwell again impressed with a string of fine saves. Mark Bull blasted in from a corner late on and, with just two minutes left, Cass Ramsey got forward to equalise with a cool finish. Tom Burns and Kieran Hide both went close at the death as both teams had to share the spoils.

Brickhill Wanderers earned a 9-4 victory over Barton Rovers Blues.

Crawley Green Youth showed greater desire in the last 15 minutes as they beat Luton Boys Blacksox 6-4 in Division One.

The Maroons got off to a great start as Ronan Sam found the corner from the edge of the area. Luton responded fantastically as they struck twice to lead 2-1, before Gulain Lusambya equalised from William O’Leary’s corner.

A second half goal fest saw Crawley inch ahead as a fantastic passing move between Kyle Ajayi and Cameron Veazey led to O’Leary finding the corner.

Luton again equalised before Lusambya scored the goal of the game from the kick-off as he dribbled through the whole of the Luton Boys team and coolly lofted the ball over the keeper to once again give Crawley the lead.

Luton levelled once more but Crawley Green, driven on by the fantastic Connor Eblett, retook the lead when Lusambya blocked a clearance and coolly slotted past the keeper for his hat-trick.

Strong running by Lusambya then saw him lay the ball back for Sam to rifle an unstoppable drive into the top corner.

A difficult trip to Bedford Panthers ended in a superb 5-1 victory for Barton Rovers. Henry Snee claimed a brace alongside strikes from Cam Sharp, Myles Rampley and Brandon Drake, as Sharp and Charlie Caulder shared the man of the match award.

Barton Rovers battled to a 5-3 victory over Luton Borough in the first round of the U13 League Cup.

AFC Dunstable also progressed with a 4-2 win at Bedford FC thanks to goals from star man Tom Dean, Mikey Ford, Jack Sherwood and Charlie Parker.

Dominant Crawley Green Falcons romped to an 8-0 victory at AFC Kempston Colts. They led 5-0 at the break with some terrific team goals from Rakeem Kamara, Kane O’Neill and man of the match James O’Dell, who registered a hat-trick. The second half followed a similar pattern as Bradley Hogg scored his first goal for the Falcons and Marcus Gouldbourne notched a brace.

A late equaliser denied Dunstable Town Youth victory for a second day running as they later lost out 4-2 in extra-time to Clapham Colts in the preliminary round of the U12 League Cup. Dunstable took a two-goal lead through Tyrik Lee’s strike and an own goal, only for their higher division opponents to level late on and score twice in extra-time.

Hard-working Barton Rovers earned a 2-1 win at Eastcotts Sharks in Division Two. Terrific performances from Oli Dimmock and Harry Hudson, helped Barton to a second straight win.

Matthew Potter opened the scoring when he marauded down the right wing and found the net with a fierce strike. James Brandham grabbed the MoM award for a terrific defensive display, culminating in a sublime 25-yard lob.

Dunstable Town Youth Whites ended a run of defeats with a 5-3 victory at Mid Beds Tigers in Division Four.

Town took an early lead through Harry Graham, while their new defensive partnership of Emma Dancer, Taylor Lydon and Cody Robinson kept the Tigers at bay, with keeper Jed Noblett making several good saves. However, they couldn’t stop the Tigers from netting twice as they led 2-1 at half time.

Town put in an outstanding second half performance as Graham netted his second to level the scores. Midfielders Joel Brennan, Alfred Mureithi and Daniel Keating pushed the team on as Samuel Harding and Warwick Fennesey netted their first goals of the season.

Robbie Coe secured victory with an outstanding 25-yard free-kick, although Tigers pulled a late goal back.

Another excellent performance saw Barton Rovers beat Leighton United Greens 5-2 in U11 Division Four.

Harry Hart got Rovers off to a great start with a goal after 12 seconds, before Ben Miller and player of the week Kade Walcott scored braces to cement Blues’ second place in the league.

Dunstable Town Youth U9 Eagles beat Wootton Rangers 6-3 in the Bedfordshire Mini Soccer League.

Dunstable made a bright start and kept it tight at the back with great performances from Jack Saunders, Blake Scrivener and William Wilkes. Man of the match William Henshall never stopped running, Joel Duffus and Caelan Fraher put in strong performances, while Gi Wai Kwok, Ryan Gibson, Charlie Moffat and Oliver Geary took their goals well.

Dunstable Town Youth U8 Sharks edged their toughest game yet against Mid Beds Tigers. A tight game saw keeper Bobby Elliott named Dunstable’s man of the match, while Finlay Thurston netted twice alongside strikes from Oliver Owen and Elliott Kefford.

Watling produced a great performance to beat Luton Allstars 7-2 in Chiltern Junior Sevens League U12 Division One.

Man of the match Dan Brown and Josh Wilson controlled the centre of the park and Spencer O’Leary and Adam Froom linked up well up top.

They took the lead when Louie Power’s pass released Jamie Hunter down the right and Josh Wilson produced an emphatic finish. More good play through the middle saw Brown fire an exquisite shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the area and Wilson grab his second. Watling switched off at the back as Allstars pulled one back before a more route one approach saw Froom burst through to fire into the bottom corner. Lewis Bibby made a couple of smart stops before Watling failed to close down a Luton player shortly before half time as he made it 4-2 at the break.

David Ilugbo had to concentrate hard against his lively opposite number.

Harrison Nicholls dominated the midfield with some excellent touches, while Lewis Spinks had to be quick off his line on a couple of occasions.

Liam Lindgren’s cross-shot was finished in style by Luka Jai Lodder, before O’Leary cut in from the right and produced an acute finish and Wilson completed his hat-trick.

A late equaliser denied Dunstable Town Youth victory as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Luton Borough Dragons.

Nat Connelly put them ahead midway through the second half, only for Dragons to level 20 seconds from the end.

Barton Rovers battled hard as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at Fitwick Eagles in U11 Division One.

Strong performances came from Nathan Speight, Toby Olawale-Babs, Louie Tigwell and Ben Smart.

The performance outshone the result for Barton Rovers Blues as they played their best football of the season in their 3-1 defeat to Maulden Magpies in U10 Division Three.

Hard work with some great passing football saw Jude Poulton grab his goal, while Ayrton Baker put in a masterful midfield display to take the MOM award.

Barton Rovers Rebels romped to a 10-0 victory over Barton Rovers Whites in Division Four.

With just 11 players available due to Luton Schools and County Schools trials, Barton Rovers still managed to beat Harrold 4-1 in U14 Division One of the Bedfordshire Youth Saturday League.

An outstanding first half performance and clinical second half showing saw Rovers triumph, with Sam Boggon bagging a hat-trick and Matt Fussell netting his first Barton goal. The result keeps unbeaten Barton top of the table, with their men of the match Kyle Humphries, Louis Brandham and Callum Fisher.

Both defences were at their best in a competitive game as Barton Rovers and Luton Borough drew 0-0 in Division Two. Barton had their chances to win the game, but a draw was probably a fair result. Rovers’ star players were centre-backs Alex Halsey and Luke Dallman.

Barton Rovers edged past Luton All Stars and into the semi-finals of the U13 League Cup with a 1-0 victory.

After a goalless first half Barton made some positional changes and keeper Charlie Milton was deployed outfield to help break down the Allstars’ defence.

The gamble paid off as Milton won and converted a penalty himself midway through the second half and, although both teams had chances, Barton hung on to earn a semi-final spot.

Watling went second in Division Two as they converted a 4-1 half time lead to thrash Bedford Panthers 7-2.

Sydney Ibie led the way with a hat-trick, Marshall Topp netted a brace and there were goals for Oliver Cornish and Alfie Lover against replies from Junior Mulubi and Jaran Price.
