George ready to fly the flag against China

Luton’s Mixed Martial Arts fighter Jefferson George can’t wait to step into the ring for England against China at Earls Court in London on Saturday.

Fighting at 70kg, 25-year-old Jefferson been drawn in the eighth bout against Wu Haotian as part of the nine-man, one-woman England team facing the largest group of professional fighters from China ever seen in Europe.

George’s manager Ross Laurence said: “It is a great honour for Jefferson to represent England.

“We don’t know much about our Chinese opponent, because it is so rare that they come to fight over here, but rest assured, Jefferson is ready for anything”.

A sell-out crowd of 1,000 is expected at the ILEC Conference Centre, whilst in 53 countries an audience of well over 150 million will watch the inaugural battle via Henan TV in China.

The Chinese team will do battle against England in bouts from 55kg to 95kg that include stand-up fighting where kicks and elbows are permitted, as well as punches, plus MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) with grappling and holds.
