Students Luke Charnley and Ryan Hodges both made the team after representing Bedfordshire in the South East Schools competition held at John O’Gaunt Golf Club near Potton on May 29.

Charnley, a member of South Beds Golf Club, qualified with a seventh placed finish, shooting an eight-over-par score of
152 over the event’s 36 holes.

Hodges, who plays for Harpenden Common Golf Club, finished two shots further back in 12th place and had initially been named first reserve, but a drop out means he, too, has been called up for the regional team.

Bedfordshire won the Boys’ Team Championship for the first time since 2010, with the girls finishing third on countback in their event.

Harlington Upper student Alex Bithrey from South Beds GC is also in the squad, along with Dunstable Downs’ Ryan Smith.

The National Championships take place at Peterborough Milton Golf Club on Monday, June 22.
