Dunstable Down Juniors have won the Ver League Plate competition – 13 years after they last triumphed in it. Playing against a strong Redbourn team with an average handicap of eight, the Dunstable juniors ran out 9-5 winners in the Ver League Plate.
Twelve players, Ryan Smith, Brandon Black, Luke Bissett, Tom Howson, John Wright, Ryan Shilleto, Alex Winter, Alex Tipping, Chris Aherne, Freya Daniels, Ben Marshall and Jack Flanagan, have represented Dunstable in the Ver League this year and each of them has played their part in this year’s success.
A DDGC Junior organiser said: “Talk about being an eclectic mix, our team comprised a 10-year-old girl and a boy who has only been playing competitively for six months.”
Dunstable were awarded the Golf Mark accreditation earlier in the year and the section is continuing to grow and develop.
