Hatters Ladies knock Norwich City out of FA Cup

Luton Town Ladies produced an outstanding performance in the FA Cup third qualifying round, winning 4-2 at Norwich City.

The hosts had opened the scoring on 15 minutes, but Town were denied a penalty when Michelle Byrne was brought down, before they equalised after half an hour as Byrne crossed for Rachel Kosky to net.

It was 2-1 three minutes later when Byrne found Lauren Goodier to score, while the third arrived as Zara Carroll’s venomous 40 yard free-kick hit the bar and Teighlor Pengelly, on her full debut, nodded home the rebound. Some poor defending saw City reduce the arrears before the interval, but Luton weathed the onslaught after half time and came close when Kosky’s cross was fired narrowly wide by Lydia Radley.

Byrne then blocked the Canaries keeper’s clearance, as Kosky coolly found the net from 20 yards.

Radley, Carroll, Kosky and Laura Day all came close to scoring a fifth as Town earned £225 for their efforts and are now through to the first round.
