HOCKEY: Beattie bags a double as Town IIs win

Luton Town HC Ladies IIs finished their Five Counties League Division Five season with a 4-0 win over Broxbourne Vs on Saturday.

The first half started slowly, with Luton the more dominant, but couldn’t convert their numerous chances.

After the break, they moved ahead when Becky Hyde tapped home, while Taz Ferdouse soon made it 2-0, ensuring she finished as the second top scorer in the division.

Helen Beattie bagged a double to complete the scoring as Luton finished in a highly respectable third place, their best position in the league in recent history.

The men’s earned a magnificent 11-3 home win over Bishop’s Stortford in East Men’s League Division Three South West.

One the hosts settled into the pace of the game they dominated, scoring two goals in as many minutes.

Town’s speed and skill in attack, particularly from youngsters Robert Shearer and Kieran Whitehall, was too good for the visitors, as they led 7-2 by half time.

Stortford came out with a more determined attitude in the second period, but Luton still managed to find the net four more times, including a penalty flick to complete the rout.

The IIs took on Cheshunt in Division Four SW match they’d rather forget, losing 15-1, while the IIIs went down 7-1 at home to Blueharts VIs in Division Eight SW.

The club’s Juniors enjoyed their annual presentation night at the weekend, attended by the club’s chairman, James Wallis.

Each youngster received a memento for playing in the Junior Academy, whilst the individual awards were as follows.

Player of the Year, U6: Jessica Sharp. U8: Cavan Shadbolt-Mackay. U10: George Dobson. U12: Adam Hobbs.

Players’ Player of the Year, U8: Samuel Dobson. U10: Alfie Sharp. U12: Ellie Shadbolt-Mckay.

Most Improved Players: Luke Stock and Seb Singh-Brar.

Beginners Award: Charlie Dobbs.

Goalkeeper Award: Oliver Dix.

Special Club Awards: Kate Starkey and Tom Quested.
