Town’s men held by Wapping

Luton Town HC men’s team drew 2-2 with Wapping IIs in their East Men’s League Division Two South clash on Saturday.

In Division Four South West, the IIs enjoyed a 3-0 home win against West Herts IVs, while Division Seven South West saw the IIIs triumph 5-3 in an eight-goal thriller at Harpenden Vs.

The IVs drew 2-2 at home to Southgate Adelaide IIIs, also in Division Seven South West.

The hosts saw too many attacks break down in the first half as they trailed 1-0, before levelling almost immediately after the interval when Dan Crimp scored his first senior goal with a great strike from the edge of the D.

With 10 minutes to go, Southgate went back in front, but Luton kept their heads up as, from a short corner with two minutes left, Keiran Whitehall’s sweet shot saw him also bag his first senior goal.

Luton’s ladies were 2-1 winners at Welwyn in their Five Counties Women’s League Premier Division contest, but the seconds went down 2-0 at home to St Neots IIs in Division Three.

Broadway doubles up for Chiltern

Chiltern HC Ladies enjoyed a 3-1 home win over Rickmansworth in their Five Counties Women’s League Division Two clash on Saturday with goals coming from Alexis Broadway (2) and Alison Fleckney.

Broadway has now equalled Chiltern’s top goalscorer tally from last season in the first two games as her side currently sit second in the table.

Player of the match went to goalkeeper Katie Williams, who put in some superb saves on the line including one from a penalty flick in the second half.

In Division Three, Chiltern IIs lost 2-1 at Leighton Buzzard IIIs.

The visitors put in a fine all-round show as Loraine Roberts impressed despite playing with an injury, setting up Chelsea Wright for Chiltern’s opening goal.

Player of the match Katie Williams made some fine saves to keep her side ahead at the break, but Buzzard levelled almost immediately from the restart.

Carly Grimmer’s brilliant run and pass to Wright saw Chiltern go close once more, but Buzzard hit back to triumph with a late strike.

A goal from Bethany Carlisle saw Chiltern IIIs win 1-0 at Rickmansworth IIs in Division Five. Carlisle netted the only goal of the game on 10 minutes as the side, with temporary coach Ilona Clifton in charge, battled valiantly to hold on for victory, with player of the match going to Mel Farrow.

Heavy defeat for Vagants

Luton Vagrants went down 7-2 at Stevenage IVs in Division Seven South West of the Men’s East League at the weekend.
