Luton Dunstable & District Netball League round-up

The first round of the Luton Dunstable & District Netball League took place in rainy and cold conditions.

Experienced Red Stripes romped to a 52-12 victory over new-look Crawley Pink Tornadoes, who are a different team to last year and began to gel in this game.

Panthers only had six players as they were thrashed 72-8 by Crawley Yellow Tornadoes.

In the second quarter their GK hurt her ankle as plucky Panthers saw the game out with just five players.

Barnfield Fusion Unity edged to a 19-17 win against Barnfield Saracens in an exciting encounter.

The first quarter was a draw, and United edged 12-8 in the second as they were able to hold on to their lead despite a magnificent fightback from Saracens.

Leighton Buzzard Jaguars overcame Leighton Buzzard Harriers 39-32.

Jaguars took an early 8-3 lead and maintained this throughout despite Harriers’ best efforts.

Despite only having five players, vastly experienced ex-Premier Division side Wyvern Grangers battled to a 34-29 victory over Black Scorpions.

Wyvern took the first period 8-2 and held a similar lead until the third quarter. Scorpions took the last quarter 13-7, but it wasn’t enough.

Experienced Luton Colts took an early 9-3 lead and never looked, extending it each quarter, as they hammered youthful Crawley Lilac Tornadoes 43-19.

Barnfield Fusion only had five players, but worked hard throughout as they narrowly went down 46-39 against Dunstable Diamonds.

Diamonds played well and their efforts finally paid off in the last 15 minutes as they increased their lead.

Black Pearls put out a strong team as they defeated a promising Crawley White Tornadoes team 37-22.

Tornadoes won the first quarter, but Pearls came back strongly in the second to take the lead.

Both teams shot well, but Pearls’ experience told in the third as they claimed a comfortable win.

A very even match, featuring some great centre court play from both teams, saw Seven Up Orange edge to a 24-20 victory over Denbigh Saracens, thanks to a strong last 15 minutes.

Seven Up Red, meanwhile, had to concede to Seven Up White due to lack of players.

The re-arranged Premier Division games saw Red Tornadoes beat A-Line Flyers 43-27, Dodgers defeat Arrows 54-42 and MK Netters edge out Red Devils 31-30.
