Luton students selected for the Schools’ Olympics

A HOST of Luton athletes are travelling as part of the Bedfordshire Schools’ team to the English Schools Athletics Championships – the Schools’ Olympics – at Gateshead from Thursday, July 5 to Saturday, July 7.

Eavion Richardson from Lealands goes in the Junior Girls long jump, while in the Intermediate Girls events, Sabrina Bakare (Barnfield West) runs in the 300m and Sophie Billington (Manshead) competes in the 800m.

The Juniors Boys has Jamal Lewis from Icknield in the 800m, while Putteridge student Sam Bird enters the high jump and Jack Wuidart (Harlington) is in the hammer.

Cardinal Newman pupil Gerald Matthew runs the Intermediate Boys 200m, with Dereece O’Callaghan (Ashcroft) in the 400m and Shaquille Thomas (Stopsley) in the 100m hurdles, while Lea Manor student Jamie Potton-Burrell goes in the hammer.

In the Senior Boys events, Alan Sydee of Luton VI Form takes part in the hammer.
