PBs for Team Luton

Team Luton swimmers enjoyed a fantastic day at the Lincoln Vulcans Open Meet held at the National Swimming Centre, Ponds Forge, Sheffield, in front of the likes of Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington, last weekend.

With 21 swimmers making the trip, Ryan Compton won gold in the 200m backstroke, silver in the 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle.

Erin McNally won bronze in the 50m and 100m freestyle, while George Rodger took bronze in the 200m breaststroke. Despite being the first competition of the season, and post-summer training just under way, the swimmers achieved 29 personal best times which included 16 club records in a long course (50 metre) swimming pool.

One of these records went to Erin McNally, nine, who was competing in a 50 metre pool for the first time.

The following day eight Team Luton swimmers made up over a third of the Bedfordshire county team competing in the National County Finals 2011. Jay Wilson, Compton, Ryan Drawbridge, Jordan Batson, Emma Jesson, Beth Currant, Rachel Templeman and Charlotte Blacksley all competed, and once again most swam new best times and helped accumulate valuable points for the county in the overall team competition.
