Pupils fight it out at Schools Championships

AS the build up to the London Olympics reaches its climax, Lealands High School organised the Luton Senior Schools Track and Field Athletics Championships at Stockwood Park with an Olympic theme.

The Championships have been a regular feature on the schools calendar since the 1920s, although this year Putteridge High School did not participate.

Icknield High School’s dominance of the girls championship was broken by Cardinal Newman who triumphed, with Icknield finishing second and Ashcroft third.

The boys championship was narrowly won by Ashcroft with Icknield again second and Cardinal Newman third.

The Coronation Cup, which is based on the number of students, was also won by Ashcroft boys and Cardinal Newman girls.
