London One North: Tring 42 Luton 7

Luton Rugby began their London One North campaign with a 42-7 defeat against Tring at the weekend.

Although the match was a fairly even encounter early on, the hosts, who were relegated from the National League last season, started to dominate as winger Tom Ward went over.

Before half-time, Tring had extended their lead to 21-7 after tries from Gayton and Liam Chennells, while the only score from Luton came from a clever interception from number eight Michael Weston, who touched down for a converted try.

After the break, Tring extended their lead with tries from Gayton, Criddle and Chennells; Criddle’s try being a clever kick and
chase to score under the posts.

All the tries were converted, five by Newton and the last by Chennells.

Luton start their home campaign by hosting Chelmsford this weekend.

Meanwhile, the club’s IIIs enjoyed a 36-7 friendly win over Winslow.
