Stockwood Park put in arguably their best performance of the season to claim a 27-19 victory over in-form Stewarts & Lloyds at London Road in Midlands Three East South on Saturday.

Park stunned the visitors by powering into a 22-0 half time lead in front of a passionate 130-strong crowd.

Stewarts & Lloyds struggled to cope with Stockwood’s ferocity at the breakdown and found their attempts to mount a coherent attack stifled by the home team’s aggressive tackling game.

“It was a huge performance from everyone,” said chairman Jason Carr. “We really stepped up to the plate and met them full force head on.

“We never took a backwards step and played exactly to the game plan and also the win was made sweeter following a bad performance at their place.”

Stockwood’s tries in the first half came through Kyle Jennings and Eddie Wiggins, who grabbed two. Stephen Pollock converted two of the tries and also slotted over a penalty.

Stewarts & Lloyds battled back in the second half and registered through three tries and two conversions, but a Tom Readfern try for Stockwood put the game out of reach for the visitors.

The game was beset by several yellow cards with Stewarts & Lloyds at one point being reduced to 13 men.

The result leaves Stockwood fourth in the league, while their man of the match was Michael Powell.
