SWIMMING: Dunstable SC impress in the pool
Dunstable SC enjoyed some fine results at the East Swimming Long Course Championships held at Sportspark UEA in Norwich recently.
The club were represented by Ellie King, Emma Yule, Michael Judd, Sam Parry and Will Richards as King swum in the women’s 50m freestyle 16yrs event, finishing 13th in a time of 29.22ecs, as Emma Yule was 11th in the O17 competition.
King then went in the 200m backstroke, as she clocked 2.33.59mins in the heat, and then despite feeling ill, managed 2.33.32mins for sixth in the final.
Although she was still not in peak condition for the 50m backstroke, King battled on and managed a magnificent 32.29secs for seventh, while Yule timed 33.54secs in the O17s to ensure 25th place.
King kept going too, as in the 100m butterfly, she was second in her heat and 14th overall in a PB of 1.11.78mins, a new club record, before she was 13th in the 100m freestyle, clocking 1.03.39mins.
She went in the 50m butterfly, with 31.26secs enough for 12th, while Yule managed a superb 30.88secs in the O17 race, a huge long course PB.
King was also in the 100m backstroke and managed 1.09.39mins to qualify for the final in sixth, where she clocked 1.09.56mins to give her a very respectable seventh place.
Michael Judd had to pull up in the men’s O17 200m butterfly in considerable pain, but recovered to compete in the 50m breaststroke, where he swam 34.35secs for 40th and the 50m butterfly, timing 28.11secs for 18th.
In the 15yrs 200m breaststroke, William Richards managed 2.49.20mins in his Regional debuts for ninth, while he also managed 35.15secs in the 50m breaststroke for 14th place, with Sam Parry clocking a PB of 25.89secs for 22nd in the 50m freestyle.
Meanwhile, Alex Neeson also had some terrific swims at the 1st COAST Level 1 Long Course Open Meet in Aberdeen.
He was close to his PB in the 50m butterfly, finishing 19th in 29.61secs, before the 200m butterfly saw Neeson win his heat and then manage a new PB of 2.25.71mins for sixth place.
The 50m freestyle saw Neeson clock 27.90secs for 26th, while in the 100m, he stormed to second in his heat with a long course PB of 59.92secs giving him 20th overall.
Neeson also swum 1.05.70mins to finish 11th in the 100m butterfly.
The club will send their junior regional swimmers to compete at Inspire, Luton next weekend.
