SWIMMING: Team Luton improve on last year’s showing

Team Luton sent 14 elite youth swimmers to compete in the East Region Youth Championships at the weekend and finished an excellent fourth at Luton’s Inspire Sports Village.

With over 20 clubs attending, Team Luton finished three places higher than last year, winning three gold medals, three silver and two bronze.

In the 15/16 year old age group Ryan Jarvis, 15, swam a fantastic three second personal best in the 100m breaststroke heat and came eighth in the final.

He also reached the final of the 200m breaststroke when he clocked a PB of 2.41.78mins to finish fifth.

Jamie Fowler, 16, swam a superb PB in the 200m backstroke to book his place in the final, where he came eighth in 2.17.64mins.

Matthew Wright, 16, finished with bronze in the 1,500m freestyle in a time of 17.30.58mins.

Fowler also set PBs in his other five events too, including the 200m freestyle in 2.06.31mins as did Wright in a host of races, such as the 100m backstroke (1.07.78mins).

In the 17 and over age group, Abby Gee, 17, reached the final in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly.
