SWIMMING: Triple gold for Palmer

Putteridge Swimming Club had an amazing weekend at the East Region Winter Championships, held at Inspire, Luton.

For the first time in these championships, Lawrence Palmer completed a golden hat-trick in all three breaststroke events, the 50m, 100m and 200m, once again breaking county and East Region records.

He showed grit and determination as during the warm up for and 50m and 200m finals, his legs went into spasm causing considerable pain, but on his results, There were two orange shirts in the final of the 50m breaststroke with Jordan Batson also involved as he just missed out on bronze despite leading at one point.

Lauren Simpkins, 16, was taking part in the event for only the second time and swam in the 50m and 100m freestyle, along with the 50m and 100m backstroke.

She had an excellent weekend, with three PBs and swum 27.2secs in the 50m freestyle, making her the highest ranked 16-year-old 50m sprinter in the county, while she is also ranked second in the county for the 100m freestyle and backstroke.

Joe Murray, 15, qualified in the 100m breaststroke as he clocked a PB and is now ranked second in Bedfordshire for the event.

Overall, Putteridge SC finished fifth in the regional medal table, once again the highest ranked Bedfordshire Club.
