Team Luton impress in Norwich

TEAM Luton took 14 swimmers to participate in the Norwich Swimming Club Easter Meet over the Easter weekend.

Over 60 clubs attended, some from as far away as Dubai, with a total of 625 swimmers competing and for many of Team Luton it was their first competitive meet in a long course pool as well as being their first level one meet.

The 14 club members swam a total of 58 races and won 13 medals, achieved five new regional times, 23 personal bests and set 22 club records.

In the 10-year-old age group, Erin McNally set two club records, one in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2.59.97mins and her second in the 200m freestyle, clocking 2.43.86mins.

Aisha Karouai won bronze in the 400m and 200m individual medley (IM), setting club records in these events as well as the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke.

Nathan Swift broke four club records by winning gold in the 400m freestyle with a time of 5.23.01mins, along with silver in the 50m and 200m freestyle.

In the 400m IM, he broke his PB by 17 seconds, finishing in 6.27.26mins to win silver, while also taking bronze in the 200m breaststroke and 200m IM.

Caitlin Moriarty set a new club record in the 11-year-old age group 100m backstroke with a time of 1.20.26mins and booked her place in the Regional Championships.

Joe Murray, 12, won gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke with times of 36.92secs and 1.19.57mins, setting two new club records.

He swam a fantastic 200m breaststroke to earn a new PB and silver in a time of 2.59.27mins, while also setting regional times in the 100m freestyle and 200m IM.

George Rodger swam an excellent 36.55secs in the 13-year-old 50m breaststroke to win gold.

Abby Gee, 14, took silver in the 400m IM and 200m butterfly, setting club records in both these events and the 100m butterfly with a PB of 1.07.31mins.

She also swam a commendable 200m IM in 2.38.20mins achieving a PB and regional time in the process.

Amy Harris set three club records in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle as well as Jay Wilson in the 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke.

Lauren Hobbins, 16, swam a regional time in the 50m backstroke, clocking 33.53secs.

All Team Luton swimmers are now looking forward to the challenge of the Youth and Bagcat Championships in May and June.
