Try-machine Josh gets England call

ENGLAND honours are nearing for a former Barton and Harlington schoolboy who is setting the RFU Championship alight, writes Mark Wood.

Bedford Blues winger Josh Bassett is currently the league’s top try scorer with 17 tries in 20 games, and has just been called up to the England U20 squad to face Italy in the U20 Six Nations at Rovigo on Friday, kick-off 7pm.

The former Arnold Middle and Harlington Upper student has been involved with the national age group squad in Coventry, Portugal and, most recently, Guilford, and admitted it would be a dream come true to wear the Red Rose.

Bassett said: “I played East Midlands at U17s. This is a whole new level to what I’ve done before. They’ve said to me keep doing what I’m doing. Carry on how I’m doing at Bedford and keep developing. If I get an opportunity to get involved in the U20 Six Nations I will.”
