Vagrants win seven-goal thriller

Luton Vagrants hung on to win 4-3 against Luton Town IIIs in their East Men’s League Division Seven South West clash at the weekend.

Home team Luton started strongly with several penalty corners early in the first half.

But it was Vagrants who scored first with a quick counter-attack finished coolly by Kevin Abranches, with a shot into the corner of the net.

Luton bounced back to score twice before the half ended and take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Vagrants started the second half in the ascendancy once more and their pressure told.

Two quick goals from Leigh Smith and captain Dan Connor put the visitors back in front, before a fourth goal followed shortly to open a two-goal gap.

With the game entering the final 10 minutes, Luton pushed hard and found a third to put them back in the contest.

A penalty corner on the final whistle gave the home team a chance to rescue a point with the final play of the game, and this prompted Vagrants to bring all 10 outfield players to the edge of the D.

The set-play broke down and Vagrants won a free hit to end proceedings with a fine win.
