Ward retains his strongest man title

POWERFUL James Ward retained his British Strongest Man U90kg title at Tamworth last Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

The 26-year-old from Clydesdale Road in Luton overpowered the 11 other strongest men in his category as he finished just half a point short of having a perfect record.

He triumphed in the 125kg clean and press for reps, the 430kg tyre flip, the 300kg axle deadlift for reps, the 280kg frame carry and the loading medley, and tied in first place in the Atlas stones as he finished with 71.5 points.

Ward, who works and trains at Gym 1 in Luton, said: “As I was the champion I got an invite anyway, but I won the English title earlier in the year which would have qualified me anyway.”
