Game Guy with Darren Gargette

THERE’S something for everyone with the release of at least four major videogames to compete against your Modern Warfare 3 or Skyrim time.

It really is the crazy season for games this winter and even though I am a dedicated gaming enthusiast I am going to struggle to fit these games in. Let’s just hope this is the storm and we’re currently waiting for the calm to settle back in to our weekly schedule.

It’s Microsoft’s reason to celebrate the decade old series of Halo’s success with the remake of the very first, and arguably the best, game of the series.

Reliving the classic battles against the Covenant on the Pillar of Autumn and following Guilty Spark 343 into the Library are both memorable encounters for better and indeed, for worse, respectively.

Ubi Soft are jumping and stabbing with two releases this week and they couldn’t really be any different types of games if they tried harder.

Rayman returns this week and has gone back to his roots of a 2D platform game with a gorgeous animation style looking like a playable cartoon with the co-operative gameplay from New Super Mario Bros Wii. That’s right, people, expect to be bubbling your way to victory with a smattering of pushing your friend into the pit of death for those ever so enticing bonus points.

Assassins Creed: Revelations is also out this week and should hopefully wrap up the storyline with Ezio and Altair combined. As with all sequels, expect more of the same but with improved mechanics from previous entries.

Last but no means least see’s what could well be the Nintendo Wii’s last hurrah and their 3DS console’s first real hurrah.

The Legend of the Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Wii utilisies the under-used Wii Motion Plus controller to fully realise 1:1 combat between you and the onscreen character that everyone loves; Link

Expect an adventure of mammoth proportions in what has been touted as the best Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

Super Mario 3D Land may have the worst title in history, other than Mario Kart 7, but the chubby red capped plumber is back in a game that shouldn’t really need an explanation. It’s a Mario game, afterall!

Oh and Saints Row: The Third is out. Phew, I think that’s all of them.

So if none of those games appeal to you, then I can firmly believe you’re not interested in videogames.

Well, that, or you’re simply too far deep into Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to be aware of other videogames this winter season!
