Adults with learning difficulties art and craft sessions. Every Wednesday morning 10.30am to 12.30pm and Saturday morning 11am to 1pm at Arttrend, Arundel Road, Luton.

An unlikely love affair explodes into an inferno of devastation in La Traviata at the Grove Theatre, Dunstable. 
Catch the production as it is broadcast live from the English National Opera on at 7.15pm. La Traviata, translated as ‘The Fallen Women’, reaches into the heart of opera’s powerful themes of love and tragic death.

THURSDAY JULY 16

Opening today at Wrest Park is a new pop-up exhibition telling the story of how Wrest Park was the first country house to take in convalescing soldiers during the First World War. 
The doors opened just two weeks after the Battle of Mons, the first major engagement of the war involving British troops, on 7 September 1914.

t later became a hospital in November 1914. In the drawing room of the house visitors can discover how Wrest Park and its grounds were put to use as a hospital during the First World War. 
There will be graphics and an audio-visual display telling the stories of the people who worked and convalesced there using historic photographs and vivid diary extracts.

The displays will show how the rooms would have looked and how they were used during that time. In all 1,600 men passed through the hospital’s wards. By 1916 it had a deserved reputation as the best country house base hospital.

Flamenco rhythms, traditional Spanish and Cuban folksongs are interwoven to evoke the soul of the Iberian peninsula with Alec Dankworth’s Spanish Accents featuring Emily Dankworth and Jesus Olmedo at The Stables, Wavendon at 8pm. With compositions by Dizzy Gillespie, Paco de Lucia, Chick Corea and Vicente Amigo, the show will feature the beautiful voice of Emily Dankworth, the powerful flamenco dancing of Jesus Olmedo and the award-winning bass playing of Alec Dankworth.

Jackson Live sees the hugely talented Ben recreate the Michael Jackson experience with a rendition of all the King of Pop’s best-loved hits at The Stables, Wavendon.
 He is joined on stage by his band and dancers who work their way through all the hits. He’s got the look, the moonwalk and the voice! Jackson Live features live vocals and music, fabulous costumes and, of course, all the signature dance moves.

Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra come to The Stables, Wavendon at 8.45pm. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra play their own brand of Western swing, blues, gypsy jazz and country, or North Eastern Swin’ as they’ve memorably coined it.
Drawing on an eclectic range of styles and influenced by early 20th-century American music, with the addition of razor-sharp solos, irresistible arrangements and an expanding repertoire of original material, their music harks back to a golden age while staying perfectly modern.

The Strawbs were one of the biggest folk/rock bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s, with a string of well-known hit albums and singles including Lay Down and Part of the Union, which reached Number Two in the charts in 1973. 
They’re putting on a performance spanning their entire musical career at The Stables, Wavendon. 
The concert will start off with Strawbs acoustic while the final set sees The Strawbs ‘full-on’ electric. The show starts at 8pm.
