How safe is your street? Latest figures show 1,098 recorded crimes in Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis - including stalking and modern slavery offences

The latest crime figures for February show shoplifting and assaults are among the biggest issues facing police in Luton and Dunstable.

There were 1,066 crimes recorded between February 14 and 28 including 124 cases of assault without injury.

In the towns, there were 78 shoplifting offences. There were 36 incidents of malicious communication, one blackmail offence, nine threats to kill were made, as well as four modern slavery offences and 21 robberies.

There were five shoplifting incidents at the White Lion Retail Park in Dunstable, while there were 13 shoplifting crimes reported on Luton’s Barton Road. And The Mall had 20 incidents reported of people stealing from the shopping centre.

Other recorded crimes include 36 cases of harassment and nine controlling behaviour incidents.

There was a report of someone with a bladed weapon on Lewsey Road on February 17, and 10 days later, there was also a bicycle theft on the same road.

Across the whole of Bedfordshire, there were more than 2,170 crimes reported last month, including over 239 shoplifting incidents, eight kidnappings and 173 assaults with injuries. In the county, there were five cases of modern slavery reported to the police and 88 drug offences, including possession and trafficking.
