An investigation has been launched after a blaze badly damaged a house in Bute Street, Luton on Wednesday.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at around 6.18pm to reports of a roof fire at the property.

A fire had broken out on the first floor and in the roof space of a 2-storey building as well as in the basement. The first floor and roof space were 100% damaged by fire and smoke.

The building, measuring around 20x30m is used as a domestic dwelling. No-one is believed to have been hurt in the incident

Eighteen firefighters in breathing apparatus were supported by three covering jets, four hose reels, thermal imaging cameras, a drone, and an aerial platform and the road was closed for a time while people were asked to avoid the area.

A full investigation into the fire will be carried out by the Fire Investigation Team alongside Bedfordshire Police.
