Town head to Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend looking for their first win at Molineux in the top flight since January 21, 1984, over 40 years ago.
That day, Garry Parker opened the scoring for the visitors, as although Luton-born John Pender equalised, Paul Walsh’s instinctive overhead kick in the closing stages ensured the points went back to Bedfordshire. To find out just who was in the Hatters line-up that day, see below.
5. DF: Mal Donaghy
Northern Ireland international racked up yet another impressive haul of games, playing 40 matches for the Hatters during the campaign, as he also scored once, that coming in the 2-1 defeat to Southampton. Didn't miss a match in the next three seasons as he became a hugely important part in the Town back-line. Photo: Hatters Heritage
6. MF: Brian Horton
Midfield general had his part to play in Luton's winner, his free kick leading to the Hatters making it 2-1 in the closing stages to bring all three points back from the Midlands. Final campaign at Kenilworth Road as he moved to Hull City in the summer. Photo: Hatters Heritage
7. MF: Garry Parker
Having come through the ranks at Luton, he was in the side as Ricky Hill's deputy, as on his fifth top flight appearance for the Hatters, he scored his first goal in senior football. It came early on too, Wolves keeper John Burridge unable to gather Paul Walsh's cross-shot and the midfielder tapping home with just two minutes gone. Went on to start the last seven games of the season, finding the net again in a 2-1 defeat to Spurs. Photo: Hatters Heritage
8. MF: Frankie Bunn
Put clear by Brian Stein early on, he wasn't able to double the Hatters' advantage at Molineux, firing wide of the target. Did end up with three goals from his 30 Division One outings in total, most notably scoring in the 2-1 win at Watford a few months earlier. Had another season at Kenilworth Road before moving to Hull City. Photo: Hatters Heritage
