5. Mal Donaghy
After spells at Cromac Albion and Larne in his home country of Northern Ireland, moved to Luton in 1978 for £20,000 under David Pleat in 1978. Won the Second Division title to reach the top flight and was part of the team who won the 1988 Littlewoods Cup Final. After a decade at Kenilworth Road, he joined Manchester United in 1988 for £650,000. Loaned back to Town as he finished with 488 appearances and 21 goals. Back at Old Trafford, he won the European Cup Winners Cup, European Super Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield. 6. Ken Goodeve
Born in Manchester, the defender signed professional terms at Old Trafford in 1967. Couldn't break in at United, joining Luton in April 1970. Skippered the reserve side, but he only featured 19 times for the first team during three seasons at Kenilworth Road, leaving in December 1973 to join Brighton & Hove Albion. Sold to Watford, although had his professional career ended by a groin injury, as he went on to play non-league football, also managing Wootton Blue Cross. Photo: Hatters Heritage
7. Jack Ball
Forward started at Newton United, moving to Manchester United in 1929. Scored 11 goals in 24 games as he then went to Sheffield Wednesday, having another amazingly prolific spell with the Owls. Went back to Old Trafford for a season in 1933, then joining Huddersfield Town and signed for Luton in 1935. Bagged an impressive 49 goals in 74 matches for the Hatters, winning promotion from Division Three South in 1937. After losing his place, retired from playing a year later. Photo: Hatters Heritage
8. Don Givens
Forward began his career with Manchester in 1969 after moving across from Ireland, as he went on to play eight times for the Red Devils before joining Luton in 1970, signed by Harry Haslam. Bagged 22 goals in 91 matches, heading to QPR two years later where he really made his reputation. Republic of Ireland international also played for Birmingham, Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Swiss side Neuchâtel Xamax, as he ended his playing days in 1987. Photo: Hatters Heritage
