Steve White bagged his 18th of the season, with a David Moss penalty enough for the hosts to claim the three points needed to be crowned champions in front of 16,657 supporters at Kenilworth Road. Defender had missed the first 10 games of the season before coming in for the 2-0 win at Wrexham and keeping his place for the remainder, playing 32 times, scoring once, in a 3-2 win over Derby County.
6. Mal Donaghy
Towns fourth top scorer that season as he bagged nine goals from 42 appearances, including a run of six in 11 earlier in the campaign. Also scored during the final day 3-2 win at Cardiff City.
7. Ricky Hill
Got the ball rolling on the night, as he opened the scoring with a fifth of the campaign from what was eventually 38 appearances. Had notched the winner at Loftus Road earlier in the season too.
8. Brian Stein
Part of a quartet of players who started every game that season, ending up as the Hatters' top league score with 21 goals, including a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United.
